Eyebrow thinning is a common concern and can be caused by several factors, including over-plucking or waxing, aging, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, and certain medications or medical treatments. Additionally, genetics may play a role in eyebrow thinning or sparse hair growth.
Latisse is only FDA-approved for the treatment of inadequate eyelash growth, meaning it is considered an off-label prescription for eyebrow growth. This means that Latisse is not FDA-approved for eyebrow growth, but a provider can still prescribe it for that use if they deem it safe and appropriate for a patient. There is research indicating that Latisse may improve eyebrow hair fullness and darkness in people with sparse eyebrows.
Latisse’s effectiveness for eyebrow growth may depend on the underlying cause of the eyebrow loss. For example, if the cause of eyebrow loss is due to a medical condition such as alopecia areata, Latisse may not be effective. Additionally, if the hair follicles on the eyebrow area are damaged or scarred, Latisse may not be able to stimulate hair growth in that area.
Latisse is a medication used to enhance the growth of eyelashes, and while it is not FDA approved for use on eyebrows, it may be prescribed for such use at the provider’s discretion if safe and appropriate for a patient. This is considered to be an “off-label” use. If you are seeking treatment for sparse eyebrows, you can talk to your healthcare provider about whether Latisse may be right for you.
