12 essential nutrients
The Modern Fertility Prenatal Multivitamin helps you bridge that nutritional gap between what you’re getting from food and the levels OB-GYNs recommend so you can keep your body supported before, during, and after pregnancy.
Folate
Folate (as methylfolate) is critical for fetal neural tube (brain and spine) development.*Choline
Choline is vital for fetal neural tube development — and most pregnant people don’t get enough.* [2]Omega-3s
Omega-3s (as the vegetarian algal DHA) help with fetal brain and retina development.*Iron
Iron is the building block of hemoglobin — a blood protein that transports oxygen.*Vitamin A
Vitamin A (as beta-carotene) supports good vision, healthy skin, and a functioning immune system.*Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 boosts protein metabolism for both you and your pregnancy.*Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 plays a role in central nervous system function.*Vitamin C
Vitamin C makes it easier for your body to absorb iron.*Biotin
Biotin aids in converting food into energy — and a third of pregnant people are deficient.* [3]Vitamin D3
Vitamin D3 increases absorption of calcium from food.*Iodine
Iodine is important for thyroid hormones and thyroid health.*Zinc
Zinc, which is essential for healthy fetal growth, can be up to 50% deficient in vegetarians.* [4]

Answers to your prenatal vitamin questions
OB-GYNs recommend prenatal vitamins at least a month before trying to conceive to build up nutrients (like folate) that support fetal development during the first trimester* — and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say there’s value in taking them throughout your reproductive years.[5,6] We designed the Prenatal Multi so you can take it long before pregnancy all the way through after.
While getting enough calcium is essential to your overall health, most people get almost all the calcium they need from what they eat (common sources include dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified foods).[7] Plus, including calcium in a multivitamin can block iron absorption[8] — and iron is one of the top nutrient deficiencies for people with ovaries (especially during pregnancy). (That’s why we recommend avoiding products high in calcium for an hour after taking the Prenatal Multi.)
Instead of calcium, the Prenatal Multi contains vitamin D. Vitamin D helps the calcium you’re already getting from food work more effectively in your body — and it doesn’t interfere with iron absorption.*
The Prenatal Multi is formulated to support your body without over-supplementing, which decreases the likelihood of uncomfortable side effects like nausea or stomach aches.* The form we chose for iron, ferrous bisglycinate, also helps with reducing stomach issues.[9]
The Prenatal Multi can’t completely replace well-balanced eating, but it can supplement the nutrients you’re not getting enough of from what you eat to help levels reach where they need to be to support a healthy pregnancy.
The Prenatal Multi is especially important if you're vegetarian or have other food limitations. It plugs in gaps to help you make sure you get enough of the essential nutrients, as recommended by doctors.
To keep your Prenatal Multi vegetarian, we chose to include algal DHA. Our supplier uses soy (lecithin) and milk (sodium caseinate) proteins to extract DHA from algae. If you’re allergic to soy or milk proteins, talk to your healthcare practitioner before starting.
