What is Wegovy?
Wegovy (semaglutide) is an FDA-approved drug in a class of medications called glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1s for short).
Wegovy acts like a natural hormone your body uses to regulate blood sugar and appetite—key steps in resetting your biological set point to help you maintain a new, lower weight.

What is the new Wegovy pill, and how is it different than the Wegovy pen?
The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide—the same active ingredient as the Wegovy pen—but is designed to be taken orally.
Here are the similarities between the pen and the pill:
Weight loss results: The average weight loss in one year is 14% with the pill and 19% with the pen, when using the highest doses.
Active ingredient: The active ingredient in both Wegovy pill and Wegovy pen is semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Ozempic.
Dosing: Both medications start at a low dose, and the dose is gradually increased over time based on your individual needs and goals.
Side effects: are similar across both medications, and through Ro, you can reach out to a provider to help manage them.

1. Start your online visit
Answer a few questions about your health and goals, all online—no in-person doctor’s office visit necessary. You’ll find out if you’re eligible within 2 days.
2. Provider writes an Rx (if appropriate)
A provider will review your info and prescribe the right GLP-1 treatment for you, if eligible. Get ready for your first dose in 1-2 weeks if paying cash, or 2-3 weeks if using insurance.
3. Check your insurance coverage
Ro checks your insurance to see if GLP-1 coverage is available. If you require prior authorization, Ro's insurance concierge fights for coverage and submits all paperwork on your behalf. If you're covered, a prescription is sent to your pharmacy. If not, your provider will suggest alternative FDA-approved cash pay GLP-1 options. This process takes about 2-3 weeks.
4. Start your treatment
If paying cash, your medication ships right to your door and you can take your first dose in less than a week. If using insurance, your medication can be picked up at your pharmacy.
5. Get support to stay on track

How do you take the Wegovy pen?
The Wegovy pen is a prefilled injection pen used once weekly. If prescribed, you will inject the medication under the skin of your stomach, thigh, or upper arm. You’ll receive step-by-step instructions for using the pen, and your Ro-affiliated provider can offer additional guidance.
What are the most common Wegovy side effects?
The common side effects of Wegovy often improve within the first few weeks of starting treatment. Side effects may also occur when doses are increased.
Some of the most common side effects of Wegovy include:
Nausea
Diarrhea
Vomiting
Constipation
Dysesthesia (skin sensations)
Stomach pain

What is Wegovy HD?
Wegovy HD is the high-dose version of the weekly Wegovy injection. It contains 7.2 mg of semaglutide and can be particularly helpful if you’ve been taking 2.4 mg of Wegovy and haven’t been able to reach your weight loss goals despite also making lifestyle changes. Your Ro-affiliated provider can help determine if Wegovy HD is a fit for you.
