PCOS
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 5–10% of women. It’s a hormonal imbalance that leads to irregular menstrual cycles, obesity, increased body hair and facial hair (hirsutism), obesity, insulin resistance, and multiple small follicles on the ovaries. It is also one of the most common causes of infertility. Having PCOS increases a woman’s risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and stroke. The cause of PCOS is not well understood but is likely due to a combination of lifestyle and genetic factors.
