Surveying patients on how GLP-1s (and the narrative around them) impact their relationships
GLP-1 medications have changed how millions of Americans approach weight loss, but their impact goes far beyond the scale. From dating dynamics to family dinners, these medications influence our relationships in deeply personal—often unexpected—ways.
At Ro, we wanted a deeper understanding of what life looks like for those on GLP-1s, and the people they are surrounded by. So, we asked 2,782 U.S. adults (including 782 Ro patients using GLP-1 medications) to share how GLP-1s shape their daily lives—and how people around them perceive these changes. The data tells a nuanced story.
Some of our findings from Ro patients include:
93.5% say their partner is supportive of their GLP-1 journey.
More than half say they feel more confident since starting a GLP-1.
That being said, 1 in 5 Ro patients who are dating don’t disclose that they’re using a GLP-1.
These contradictions reveal a medication that's simultaneously destigmatizing weight management while creating new forms of medical secrecy—a paradox that reflects deeper cultural tensions around body image, personal autonomy, and health transparency in modern relationships.
This summer, we’ll be releasing data themed around dating and relationships, close family and friendship dynamics, parenting, and the impact of public opinion about GLP-1s.
Whether you, a friend, family member, or coworker is on a GLP-1 (or even considering it), this series is designed to offer real, data-backed insight into what it means to live in the GLP-1 era.
