Who should be freezing their sperm?
Sperm freezing acts as an insurance policy to increase your fertility options later on if you need them.
I’m considering hormones or gender-reassignment, is the Ro Sperm Kit right for me?
If you are considering hormones or gender-reassignment, we recommend you speak with your healthcare provider to discuss all your options before surgery.
Where can I find Terms and Conditions / Privacy Policy?
How does the kit work?
Do I need to refrigerate the kit?
There’s no need for refrigeration with our kit.
Can I use lubricant when masturbating in the cup?
You should avoid the use of lubricants. If you must, use a lubricant that does not contain preservatives that will damage sperm. These are sometimes referred to as “fertility-friendly” lubricants.
I only ejaculated a small amount. Will my sample still be viable?
Volume of your sample isn’t necessarily a problem. We recommend you send your kit back to the lab and we will inform you if the amount is sufficient for storage and analysis.
How do I know my kit is secure?
After you collect into the cup, screw the cap on tight and push the button on the lid to release the preservative. Place the cup back in the kit and use the provided security band to lock the corner of the kit closed.
When should I collect my deposit if I can’t do it in the afternoon?
If you cannot collect a deposit in the afternoon, collect as close to your UPS drop off time as possible. Because sperm begins to degrade as soon as it leaves the body, it’s important to try to minimize the time between collecting your deposit and shipping your kit to the lab. We do recommend taking the necessary steps to ensure a successful deposit, which may mean taking an afternoon off, if that’s available.
Should I be exercising (or abstaining from exercise) before collecting my sample?
Exercising in the days leading up to your collection is okay in moderation, but it’s best not to exercise in the hours leading up to the collection. (E.g., don’t go for a 4 hour bike ride and collect right after!)
What happens after I use the kit?
Can I drop off my kit at any post office or UPS box?
No. Although most UPS locations will accept the package, they are not all picked up on a daily basis. Please drop your kit off at The UPS Store®or UPS Customer Center. To find your nearest UPS location and last drop-off time, go to UPS.com, select “Locations” in the top right, and use the “Find a Location” tool.
Can I schedule a UPS pick up?
UPS pick ups are not advised. They typically give you a large pick up window, making planning your collection time tricky. If this is your only option, try to schedule a later afternoon pickup.
What information will my semen analysis report contain?
Within 48 hours of receipt, a lab technician examines your sample in order to evaluate your sperm count, and concentration. We’ll email you a personalized semen analysis report.
How is my sperm being stored in the lab?
Your sperm sample will be tested and cryopreserved in Boston at the New England Cryogenic Center, one of the largest full-service cryogenics labs in the world found in 1971.
Your sample is processed, analyzed, and divided into three separate vials. These vials are immediately frozen, and each vial can be individually thawed and used, giving you up to three opportunities to use the sperm from a single collected sample.
Is it beneficial to store more than one sample?
Three fertilization attempts are possible per sample. For increased opportunities to fertilize an egg in the future, consider storing multiple kits.
What happens when I’m ready to use my sperm?
When you are ready to use your sperm sample, send an email to [email protected], and we will coordinate delivery with your medical facility.
Do I need to complete STI testing prior to using my sperm for artificial insemination?
It is Ro’s policy that sperm samples should be used only for purposes of artificial insemination or in ART procedures by a physician of a customer’s spouse or sexually intimate partner. However, many clinics have specific screening requirements for infectious diseases prior to use of stored samples, and we recommend that all clients who are planning on storing their sample with Ro to get a full STI panel prior to making their sample.
General questions
What’s the overall cost?
The Ro Sperm Kit is close to 5x more affordable than existing sperm banking. The cost of the kit and test is $ 199 and the first year of cryogenic storage for 3 vials is free. Additional years of storage are $149 per year and you can cancel anytime. If you wish to withdraw your sample for use, there is a $299.99 withdrawal fee. There is no fee if you wish to discard your sample.
What if I want to test my sperm, but not store it?
Unfortunately, we do not offer the semen analysis report without at least a one-year storage subscription.
What is your Refund or Return policy?
Ro can not accept returns or issue refunds after the kit has been shipped. If you experience any issues or have questions, please contact us via email at [email protected]
What is the success rate?
Frozen sperm has been used successfully to conceive children since 1953. However, conception depends on many factors and freezing sperm does not guarantee successful pregnancy in the future. The longest time between freezing and use ever reported is over 25 years. In theory, you can freeze sperm for up to 200 years.
How do I know my sperm sample and personal information is secure?
We have 2 security IDs — one on the bottom of your collection cup and one on the security band you affix to the outside of your kit — so you can trust your sample is truly yours.
All samples are stored at New England Cryogenic Center, our secure partner lab facility and handled by a staff of highly trained cryogenic and laboratory professionals. Our customer data is not our product. The information customers share with us will never be distributed to external agencies.
Can the account be under my partner's name?
The account name needs to be the person supplying the sample.
Why is it important for me to get STI testing?
Proof of negative STI may be required by a fertility clinic if you plan on using your sample in a future assisted reproduction procedure.
Strongly Recommended:
If you’re undergoing STI testing in connection to semen sample storage, we recommend obtaining the in-person STD Expanded Screening Panel from QuestDiagnostics at a Quest location.
