Sex, love, and GLP-1s
How weight loss medications are reshaping modern dating
GLP-1 medications aren't just changing how people feel in their bodies—they're changing the way they connect with others. There’s no denying the gender divide when it comes to how openly GLP-1 use is discussed: while 93% of men tell their partners about GLP-1 use, only 83% of women do—with women 3.5 times more likely to permanently conceal their treatment. For people who are dating, these changes are complex. There’s more confidence, more physical intimacy, and more activity-driven dates. But there’s also hesitation around disclosure (especially among women) and lingering fears of stigma. Ro surveyed 2,782 U.S. adults, including those on GLP-1s who are actively dating, to understand how these medications influence modern dating and romantic relationships. More dates. More confidence. More sex. ❤️🥵
GLP-1s are helping people feel more in control of their bodies—and that confidence is spilling over into the dating world. Since starting treatment, 57% of Ro patients say they feel more confident in their bodies.
From dinner dates to weekend walks. 🍽️➡️🌄
Dinner and drinks is no longer the default. Ro patients on GLP-1s aren’t just dating more—they’re dating differently. The data reveals a fundamental shift in American dating culture: outdoor activities have nearly tripled, fitness dates increased 5-fold, while traditional dinner dates dropped from 78% to 53%, showing that as GLP-1s change peoples’ energy levels, appetites, and confidence, they’re also changing how they choose to spend time together. Here’s a deeper look at the data:
Support at home makes a big difference. 🥰🏠
GLP-1 use doesn’t just affect people on an individual level—it also reshapes relationship dynamics. Most Ro patients’ partners aren’t on GLP-1s themselves, but that doesn’t mean they’re disengaged.
The generational divide between boomers and millennials reflects a broader shift in how people approach health transparency in relationships. While millennials may be more inclined to treat health journeys as a shared effort, older couples are more likely to keep those experiences private. But the overarching message across all generations is clear: support matters, and most people are getting it.
The GLP-1 disclosure gap is real—especially for women.🤫🙈
GLP-1s are medications—and like any health information, people choose who to share with and when based on comfort, trust, and timing. The decision varies widely, especially by gender:
Disclosure is also far less likely early on in a relationship. In total, 75% of GLP-1 patients say they wouldn’t share their use on a first date, often citing emotional and cultural weight stigma, or, in the case of ⅓ of Ro patients, that they are specifically worried about being judged. When Ro patients do choose to talk about their GLP-1 use on the first date, they aim to lead with confidence and control:
No matter how you look at it, GLP-1s are fundamentally reshaping the dating landscape—from how people feel in their bodies to how they navigate vulnerability, intimacy, and support. Millennials are leading the charge: they’re dating more, having more sex, and are the most likely to disclose that they’re on a GLP-1. While about a third of people worry about judgment when dating on the medication, just as many say they’re not concerned at all—bolstered by the fact that 94% of their partners end up being supportive. And even when intimacy itself doesn’t change, the emotional impact of feeling more confident, seen, and supported speaks volumes.
Methodology
Survey results are based on the responses of 2,782 people, of which 782 were Ro Body members using GLP-1 medication. Ro membership includes access to prescription GLP-1 medications, provider check-ins, an insurance concierge, and a lifestyle modification curriculum. Ro members were entered into a sweepstakes in exchange for their participation in the survey.
