Depression

What is depression?

Depression is a mental health condition that affects 16 million American adults. It is perfectly normal to feel sad from time to time. However, if you experience lasting feelings of intense sadness or low mood, your symptoms could affect your close relationships, your performance at work/school, and your ability to socialize. When symptoms reach this level of intensity, it is best to seek professional care.

65%

Approximately 65% of Americans with depression actually get treatment.

  • Lasting feelings of sadness

  • A loss of interest in activities you normally enjoy

  • Changes in sleep patterns

  • Changes in appetite

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Fatigue

  • Guilt or low self-esteem

  • Changes in your physical movement, like fidgeting or slower reaction times

  • Suicidal thoughts

If you have experienced several of these symptoms for at least 2 weeks, you may have major depressive disorder (MDD).

You are not alone, and there is treatment available, if appropriate. Common treatments for depression include antidepressant medication (find out more about which medications Ro Mind-affiliated healthcare providers may prescribe), psychotherapy,† or a combination of both. (†Ro Mind does not offer psychotherapy.)
