As the first oral GLP-1 approved for weight loss, the newly-approved Wegovy pill (semaglutide) is an exciting alternative for people who may be apprehensive about injections or would prefer an oral medication. Sound like you? Then you probably want to know more about the medication, such as the Wegovy pill cost and how it compares to the prices of other GLP-1 medications.

Read on as we break down the prices for the Wegovy pill, with and without insurance.

How much does the Wegovy pill cost without insurance?

Without insurance, the Wegovy pill has a cash price of $149–$299 per month, depending on the dose, through Ro. It also has a list price of $1,349.02.

Here’s a breakdown of the self-pay or cash prices for the Wegovy pill:

1.5 mg

$149 per month

4 mg

$149 (through April 15, 2026), then $199 per month

9 mg

$299 per month

25 mg

$299 per month

These prices apply when you pay cash for oral Wegovy and fill your prescription through select telehealth providers such as Ro, your local pharmacy, or NovoCare Pharmacy (operated by Novo Nordisk, the maker of Wegovy).

How much does the Wegovy pill cost with insurance?

With insurance, the Wegovy pill costs anywhere from $25 to $299 per month. How much you’ll end up paying for oral Wegovy depends on your insurance coverage and eligibility for the Wegovy Savings Offer from Novo Nordisk.

  • If you have a commercial insurance plan that includes coverage for Wegovy, you can pay as little as $25 for Wegovy with the manufacturer’s Wegovy Savings Offer. It offers a maximum savings of $100 off a one-month prescription, $200 off a two-month prescription, and $300 off a three-month prescription.

  • If your plan does not include coverage for Wegovy, the Savings Offer caps your price at $149 per month for the 1.5 mg and 4 mg dosage strengths and $299 per month for the 9 mg and 25 mg dosage strengths.

The Wegovy Savings Offer is exclusively available to people with commercial insurance plans or people who are self-paying. People enrolled in government programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, are not eligible for the Savings Offer.

Not sure if your insurance plan covers Wegovy? Find out with Ro’s GLP-1 Insurance Checker. You can also contact your plan directly (the number is on the back of your insurance card) or refer to your plan’s drug formulary (which typically can be found online).

Is the Wegovy pill covered by Medicaid?

Medicaid coverage for the Wegovy pill varies by state. To check if your state Medicaid program covers the Wegovy pill, review your plan’s drug formulary. This is a list of all the drugs covered by your plan.

Is the Wegovy pill covered by Medicare?

Medicare’s coverage of the Wegovy pill depends on the reason for prescription.

When prescribed for weight loss, Medicare does not cover the Wegovy pill. That’s because, by law, Medicare does not cover obesity medications.  But the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is launching new programs to make GLP-1 weight loss medications more affordable for people with Medicaid.

When prescribed to lower cardiovascular risk in adults with heart disease and obesity or overweight, Medicare may cover the Wegovy pill under current regulations.

Cost of Wegovy pill vs. injection

The Wegovy pill and injection have the same list price of $1,349.02. But the pill is less expensive than the injection when it comes to self pay.

Without insurance, Wegovy pill and injection can cost the following cash prices:

  • Wegovy pill: $149–$299 per month, depending on the dose

  • Wegovy injection: $199–$349, depending on the dose

With insurance and the Wegovy Savings Offer, both the Wegovy pill and the injection can cost as little as $25 per month. To be eligible for the manufacturer discount, you must have commercial insurance with coverage of Wegovy. Unfortunately, those who have coverage through state or federal programs (e.g. Medicare, VA) do not qualify.

Beyond the official Savings Offer, there are additional ways to save on the Wegovy injection. Free, pharmacy-specific Wegovy coupons are available through websites such as SingleCare, BuzzRx, GoodRx, and Optum Perks. However, these coupons can only be used when paying cash for your prescription.

*Note: information about orforglipron is based on clinical trials because it has not yet been approved by the FDA.

Currently, Rybelsus is the only other GLP-1 pill on the market. It’s an oral version of semaglutide that’s FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes. But it can be prescribed off-label for that weight loss. (Even though it produces less weight loss than the Wegovy pill and weight loss injections.)

  • Without insurance, Rybelsus can cost $997.58 or more per month.

  • With insurance, Rybelsus can cost as little as $25 per month if you qualify for the Rybelsus Savings Offer

Orforglipron may join the list of oral GLP-1s soon. In December 2025, Eli Lilly submitted the drug to the FDA for weight loss and plans to submit it for type 2 diabetes in 2026.

  • The list price of orforglipron is TBD until the medication is approved by the FDA and Lilly announces a price.

  • If (and, hopefully, when) orforglipron is approved by the FDA, the drug will have a cash price starting at $149 for the lowest dose and $399 for additional doses, according to  Lilly.

Cost of Wegovy pill vs. other GLP-1s

Without insurance, the Wegovy pill can cost significantly less than other GLP-1s, particularly when paying in cash. With insurance, oral Wegovy can cost more, less, or the same, depending on your coverage and eligibility for any savings offers.

Currently, three injectable GLP-1s are approved for weight loss: Wegovy, Zepbound (tirzepatide), and Saxenda (liraglutide). These are their costs without insurance:

  • Wegovy has a list price of $1,349.02 and a cash price of $199–$349 per month, depending on dose.

  • Zepbound has a list price of $1,086.37, and its single-use vials have a cash price $299–$449 per month, depending on dose.

  • Saxenda has a list price of $1,349.02

Other injectable GLP-1s may also be prescribed off-label for weight loss, even though they are FDA-approved for conditions such as type 2 diabetes. These include Ozempic (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide), which have the follow costs without insurance:

  • Ozempic has a list price of $997.58

  • Mounjaro has a list price of $1,12.16

Bottom line

As the first oral GLP-1 approved for weight loss, the Wegovy pill offers a needle-free alternative that is often more affordable than injectable options.

  • Without insurance, Wegovy pill can cost $149–$299 per month, depending on dose, if you pay with cash. It also has a list price of $1,349.02.

  • Patients with commercial drug coverage for Wegovy can reduce their monthly cost to $25 with the manufacturer’s Wegovy Savings Offer.

  • While Medicare does not cover medications when prescribed solely for weight loss, the Wegovy pill may be covered if prescribed for cardiovascular risk reduction.

  • While they have the same list price ($1,349.02), the Wegovy pill costs less than injectable Wegovy when paying with cash. The injection has a cash price of $199–$349 per month, depending on dose.

  • Thanks to its low self-pay prices, the Wegovy pill also tends to cost less than many other GLP-1s, including Zepbound and Saxenda.
