Foundayo (orforglipron) is a daily pill that produces an average weight loss of 7%–11% in less than a year and a half. If you’ve been looking for a needle-free alternative to weight loss injections like Zepbound (tirzepatide), Foundayo could be it. But how can you get Foundayo?  

Below, we explain how to get Foundayo online (such as on Ro) and in person.

If prescribed, you can get Foundayo online on Ro or through Eli Lilly’s online pharmacy or other partnered telehealth platforms. The process may differ somewhat between platforms, but it generally goes something like this: 

• You complete an online questionnaire about your health status and treatment goals

• A licensed healthcare provider reviews your answers and prescribes Foundayo or another GLP-1, if appropriate

• Your filled prescription is shipped to your door

Below is a step-by-step breakdown of how to get Foundayo online on Ro if it’s appropriate for you. (BTW, the process looks the same for other GLP-1s offered by Ro, if you’re still exploring your options.)

1. Complete your online visit. You’ll fill out an online form by answering questions about your health history and weight loss goals.

2. Undergo a clinician evaluation. A Ro-affiliated provider will review your answers within a few days and let you know whether Foundayo is a good fit for you. In some cases, they may order a metabolic lab test (included in your Ro Body membership cost) to better evaluate your hormone and metabolic health.

3. Get your prescription for Foundayo. If your provider determines the weight loss medication is the right treatment for you, they’ll write you an Rx for Foundayo (or they may recommend another GLP-1). They’ll also explain what you can expect when you start treatment and how the dosing schedule for Foundayo works. 

4. Pay for your Rx. Available for cash pay on Ro, you can get Foundayo for $149-$299 per month, depending on the dose. Without the manufacturer discount, higher doses of Foundayo can cost just a bit more: $349 per month. 

5. Start treatment and receive ongoing clinical care. Within a few days, your Rx will either be filled and shipped directly to your home. Moving forward, you’ll have monthly check-ins with your Ro provider to discuss side effects or dosage adjustments, and have access to unlimited messaging and support.

Just like with getting Foundayo online, getting Foundayo in person requires a legitimate prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. Step one of the in-person process is scheduling an appointment with your primary care physician or an obesity medicine specialist. 

During your appointment, your healthcare provider may perform a physical exam and ask questions to learn more about your:

• Current diet and eating habits

• Current level of physical activity

• History of dieting and weight loss, including previous attempts to lose weight

• Other health conditions you have (if any)

• Other prescription and over-the-counter medications you take (if any)

This information helps your provider decide whether Foundayo may be a good fit for you. If they determine it is, they’ll write you a prescription for Foundayo. You can fill this prescription at your local pharmacy or an online pharmacy.

To qualify for Foundayo, you need to be prescribed the medication for weight loss and have either obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related medical condition. Your healthcare provider may calculate your body mass index (BMI) to determine if you qualify for Foundayo. 

The BMI criteria typically required for Foundayo include:

• BMI of 30 or higher (defined as “obesity”)

When used in combination with diet and exercise, Foundayo is an oral GLP-1 approved for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults with obesity or adults with overweight and at least one weight-related medical condition.

However, even if you meet these conditions, Foundayo may not be the right fit for you. While the weight loss pill is safe and effective for many people, it is not right for everyone. People who should not take Foundayo include anyone:

Also, Foundayo can interact with certain medications. And other drugs may require dosage adjustments to be taken safely with Foundayo, such as digoxin or simvastatin. 

When you meet with a healthcare provider about getting Foundayo, give them a full list of all medications you are currently taking so they can check for interactions and ensure Foundayo will be safe for you.

Yes, Foundayo is only available with a prescription. To get Foundayo, you’ll need to meet with a licensed healthcare provider either online or in person. If you see Foundayo being sold without a prescription over the counter, it is not legitimate and may be unsafe to use.

Insurance coverage for Foundayo varies by plan. In general, weight loss medications are less likely to be covered by insurance than other types of medications. Recent Ro research found that less than half (43%) of insurance plans cover GLP-1s like Foundayo or Zepbound for weight loss. 

When GLP-1s are covered by insurance, they tend to be higher-tier drugs. (Translation: They have higher co-pays.) Also, prior authorization is usually required. Meaning, your healthcare provider will need to submit paperwork requesting that your plan cover Foundayo.

Foundayo may be covered by Medicare Part D as soon as July 2026, according to Eli Lilly. 

To check if your insurance plan covers Foundayo, contact your insurance plan directly using the phone number on the back of your insurance card. With insurance, Foundayo can cost $25–$349 per month. Without insurance, it costs $149–$299* per month, depending on the dose, on Ro. In general, the cost of Foundayo depends on several factors, including:

• The dosage you’re prescribed

• Whether you’re paying cash or using insurance

• Where you get your Rx (e.g. which telehealth platform or local pharmacy you use)

• Your eligibility for pharmacy discounts or savings offers

Without insurance, you can get Foundayo online on Ro for the cash price of $149–$299 per month, depending on the dose. Here are the self-pay prices for Foundayo on Ro:

• 0.8 mg dose: $149 per month

• 2.5 mg dose: $199 per month

• 5.5 mg and 9 mg doses: $299 per month

• 14.5 mg and 17.2 mg doses: $299 per month (with manufacturer offer)

If you choose to fill your Rx at a local pharmacy without insurance, you won’t be eligible for Ro’s reduced price and may have to pay an average of $812.86 per month, according to SingleCare. 

You can use pharmacy coupons from SingleCare (as well as similar sites like WellRx, BuzzRx, or Optum Perks) to lower your cost to $636.72 per month, on average. These coupons are free to download and use. You simply need to visit the pharmacy discount website, search for your pharmacy and dose of Foundayo, and save or print the coupon to show your pharmacist.

As you might expect, Foundayo can cost less if you have insurance, from $25 to $349 per month: 

• If you have commercial drug insurance with coverage for Foundayo, the manufacturer savings offer can lower the price of a one-, two-, or three-month prescription to $25 per month. 

• If you have a commercial drug insurance plan but it doesn’t cover Foundayo, the savings offer caps your monthly cost to $149–$349 per month, depending on the dose.

This savings offer is only available to people with commercial drug insurance plans. People with state, federal, or government-funded insurance, such as Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or VA Benefits, are not eligible. However, according to Eli Lilly, Foundayo may be available for $50 per month through Medicare Part D, starting July 1, 2026.
